The Friends of Wesleyville Village is hiring two summer youth employees to work at Wesleyville Village for eight weeks in July and August.

This is a hands-on summer role for someone who enjoys learning, working outdoors, meeting people, and helping bring local heritage to life. The position will include a mix of visitor hosting, guided tours, event support, light property work, research, and project work connected to the village’s buildings, stories, landscape, and community programming.

 

About the role

Position: Historical Village Technician
Location: Wesleyville Village, 2082 Lakeshore Rd., Port Hope
Term: Monday, July 6 to Saturday, August 29, 2026
Hours: 35 hours per week
Schedule: Thursday to Monday, including weekends
Pay: $18.50 per hour

Each summer employee will help welcome visitors to Wesleyville Village, support public events, assist with site and conservation activities, and contribute to projects that help the organization preserve and share the village’s heritage.

The work will be shaped, where possible, around the skills, interests, and education each employee brings. For example, a student with marketing, communications, or digital media experience may help develop social media content, promotional materials, visitor communications, or digital storytelling projects. A student with education, history, museum studies, or teacher education experience may help create learning materials, tour content, school-program resources, or interpretive activities.

All employees should also expect to spend time giving village tours, greeting visitors, helping with events, and assisting with general work around the properties.

What you may work on

Depending on your background and interests, summer projects may include:

• welcoming visitors and leading informal or guided tours

• supporting public education, events, and weekend visitor programming

• helping develop educational materials about Wesleyville Village

• researching local history, rural life, heritage buildings, and village stories

• creating content for social media, newsletters, signage, or the website

• documenting local cultural knowledge through research and outreach

• helping with light conservation, maintenance, and site-support activities

• assisting with the care and presentation of the village’s buildings and grounds

This is a varied position. Some days may be focused on research or content development; other days will involve speaking with visitors, helping at an event, or pitching in with practical work around the site.
