99-year lease signed on Wesleyville church property

Three years after the horrible fire at Wesleyville church, the Friends of Wesleyville Village have signed a new 99-year lease with the United Church of Canada. The Friends of Wesleyville Village investment of public funds to restore the church for community uses is now proceeding with confidence.

Parcels A and B leased from Ontario Power Generation. Church property leased from the United Church of Canada marked with red outline.

The Friends of Wesleyville Village was founded on the lands of the Michi Saagig Anishinaabeg traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties, specifically the Gunshot Treaty signed by the Mississauga First Nations of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Scugog Island. We express gratitude towards the Indigenous peoples who have and will continue to steward these lands and waters. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We dedicate ourselves to moving forward in the spirit of partnership, collaboration, and reconciliation, as we contemplate the possibilities that lie ahead. Our commitment is to listen, learn, and establish meaningful relationships with our Indigenous sector colleagues, and take actions that advance reconciliation. We do so by recognizing the past and working towards a shared future.
