It seems these days that people are hankering for opportunities reminiscent of days gone by, a time when the pace was slower, when there were strong links to our agricultural past, and community was built on shared values of family and good wholesome fun.

On Saturday, April 18, the Friends of Wesleyville Village provided just that at their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Event, and the response from those in attendance was a resounding success.

Activities like the Easter Egg hunt on the nature trail, fun giant bubbles, pin the tail on the bunny, and the egg and spoon race delivered loads of smiles. Our special guests, Mo the donkey, Bandit the lamb, as well as Leif and Heidi’s ducklings, all courtesy of locals Brigetta and Erik of Green Eggs and Lamb Farm in Crooked Creek kept the young ones (and young at heart) in good spirits throughout the afternoon.

Visitors came from local areas of Port Hope, Cobourg, Newtonville and Newcastle, Orono and from further afield such as Toronto. There was even a taekwondo team from Richmond Hill!

All in all, the event was fun and successful, answering the question: Where can you go these days for a free family event filled with special memories and links to our agricultural and cultural past? Turns out the answer is right down Lakeshore Road, in Wesleyville Village.

The Friends of Wesleyville Village was founded on the lands of the Michi Saagig Anishinaabeg traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties, specifically the Gunshot Treaty signed by the Mississauga First Nations of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Scugog Island. We express gratitude towards the Indigenous peoples who have and will continue to steward these lands and waters. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We dedicate ourselves to moving forward in the spirit of partnership, collaboration, and reconciliation, as we contemplate the possibilities that lie ahead. Our commitment is to listen, learn, and establish meaningful relationships with our Indigenous sector colleagues, and take actions that advance reconciliation. We do so by recognizing the past and working towards a shared future.
