Creating resiliency for the Friends of Wesleyville Village organization, delivering new and on-going events, and preserving our leased buildings with the support of government, the community and our dedicated members were the highlights of last year. Successful projects such as lighting up the schoolhouse, opening the Y-House reception area, and creating an accessible entrance to the fire-damaged church overshadowed any setbacks - notably the final settlement of a 49-year lease with the United Church of Canada rather than the promised 99 years.

Our Annual General Meeting on April 3rd 2025 drew a crowd of over 70 people to the Masonic Lodge on Toronto Road. Business matters such as new bylaws, the 2024 financial report and our Chair’s annual report were enthusiastically approved by the 50 paid-up members present. Following the election of 3 returning directors Robert Sculthorpe, Bev Caswell, and Sue Stickley and new director Kristina Mills, the AGM adjourned. Guest speakers Jennifer Knox and Jesara Holla from Ontario Power Generation (OPG) presented history of shared Wesleyville Village heritage, conservation, and opportunities for community input to OPG’s exploration of the potential for new nuclear generation at the Wesleyville site. A lively discussion period was continued with individuals during the meeting refreshment wrap-up.

The Friends of Wesleyville Village was founded on the lands of the Michi Saagig Anishinaabeg traditional territory covered by the Williams Treaties, specifically the Gunshot Treaty signed by the Mississauga First Nations of Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha and Scugog Island. We express gratitude towards the Indigenous peoples who have and will continue to steward these lands and waters. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We dedicate ourselves to moving forward in the spirit of partnership, collaboration, and reconciliation, as we contemplate the possibilities that lie ahead. Our commitment is to listen, learn, and establish meaningful relationships with our Indigenous sector colleagues, and take actions that advance reconciliation. We do so by recognizing the past and working towards a shared future.
